There is a bit of latency but with just a little practice one can get used to probing and soldering PCBs under this scope. This scope has much lower latency than the low-end USB types. There is a digital zoom as well, it's basically just a crop, I haven't used it. Depth of field is quite shallow, as one would expect - this can be a benefit or a detriment, depending what you're doing. The optical zoom factor is controlled by raising and lowering the scope over the work piece, and focus is done by rotating the large ring on the scope body.

Scope itself is easy to use, works out of the box. The higher models have dimmers, this one does not. The lamps are quite bright, and allow one to light the field from two angles to cut down on shadows. The base features two attached LED lamps with a separate power cord and switch. There is a threaded hole on the back of the camera body which could be used for alternate mounting. The base isn't very big, if you're working with large PCBs you'll need to adapt a different mount, but for anything up to cellphone size it fits. It is quite well suited to these tasks, at least at the hobbyist and home workshop level.Ĭonstruction is solid, with an aluminum base and stand, a gear mechanism to raise and lower the scope, and a ring mount. I purchased this microscope for PCB inspection and an occasional bit of micro-soldering. Great value and a lot better than anything else I could find in this price range. While none of these things are deal breakers to do keep it from being that perfect 5 star diamond in the ruff. The third issue is feature related, it doesn't let you record video when your using the HDMI out. It doesn't seem to like that very much with the simultaneous read/write happening, so if you had that idea too might want to skip it. I also tested using a W4 Toshiba Flashair wifi SD card using a TF->SD adaptor. Occasionally will not read or write to the card (I've tried lots of different cards too). Its a little buggy on the HDMI out and will occasionally try and do 640x480 instead of 1080i making you unplug it and retry. I've only had it a couple days but so far I have noticed a couple annoyances that keep it from being 5 star. Video capture as great frame rate as well and the audio capture is quite good for a little built in mic. I have no complaints at all about picture quality.

The stand is passable, not as heavy or as stable as I would like but thankfully it can be removed and swapped to something else. This is a quite nice microscope for the price.
